Kent Outdoor Pursuits Disability Project
The Kent Outdoor Pursuits Disability Project began in 2005 with funding from Sport England’s Active England programme.
It built on the highly successful Kent Rural Disability Sportslink Project that was set up to increase access to the outdoor environment by developing facilities and opportunities that allowed people with a disability to enjoy the countryside and take part in informal sports.
The Sportslink project used outreach sports development work to ensure inclusion in sport, an ambition that the Kent Outdoor Pursuits Disability Project has continued through its goal of making sure that anyone who wants to can take part in sport.
In 2005 the Kent Outdoor Pursuits Disability Project helped 3500 people take part in a wide variety of outdoor pursuits, including cycling.
With cycling one of the most enjoyable ways of getting fit and seeing the countryside, the project has set up a number of groups and projects across Kent to make sure that people with any level of ability can share in this popular and varied sport.
