Go Cycle for all - handcycling

Handcycling is an established sport that is increasing in popularity and becoming more accessible, with events happening regularly all over the UK.

Get out into the country and cycle along paths and tracks, or get competitive and take on the opposition at high speed on the racetrack. Handcycling makes all these things possible for people with mobility impairments.

Most rigid wheelchairs can easily be adapted to allow a handcycle to attach to the front, opening up the countryside to all. Racing handcycles are low, fast, and mean - and the competition in this Paralympic sport is intense.

There are plans to set up a handcycling club in Kent during 2007, but in the meantime July sees a World Series handcycling race at the new Fowlmead country park as part of the Tour de France Grand Depart weekend.

Handcycling is on offer at a number of clubs and activities set up as part of the Kent Outdoor Pursuits Disability Project. Contact Paul Panton on 01732 525433 or visit the Handcycling Association website at www.handcyclinguk.org.uk
